Every year, as January 26th approaches, our hearts swell with pride and patriotism, for it’s the day we celebrate as Republic Day in India. It’s a day of parades, flag hoisting, and remembering the sacrifices of countless heroes who fought for our freedom. And while the grandeur of the national parade in Delhi is televised for the world to see, today I want to share a personal Republic Day memory that holds a unique spot in my heart.
As a group of NCC (National Cadet Corps) students, we embarked on a journey months before Republic Day that was filled with anticipation, excitement, and a deep sense of patriotism. We were on a mission to participate in the Republic Day Parade, and we were determined to make our mark.
Our preparation was meticulous. We spent countless hours ensuring our uniforms were impeccable – boots shone brightly, uniforms were crisply pressed, belts were polished to a gleam, and our Feather Hackles and badges were perfectly in place. We aimed not just to be a part of the parade but to stand out as a shining example of discipline and dedication.

The camaraderie among us was unparalleled. As students, we were so inspired and motivated by the idea of serving our country that many of us harbored dreams of joining the armed forces someday. We trained relentlessly, rain or shine, to ensure our parade performance would be the best among the rest.
The long days of rigorous practice and the determination to do our best paid off on that fateful Republic Day. As we marched down the parade route, saluting the national flag, we felt a surge of pride like no other. The crowd’s applause and the sense of being part of something bigger than ourselves filled our hearts with joy.
But the most memorable part of that day came after the parade had concluded. After months of hard work and dedication, the reward we received was simple yet extraordinary. It was not a medal or a trophy; it was one samosa and two ladoos.

To some, this may sound trivial, but at that moment, it felt like the greatest achievement of our lives. The samosa, with its crispy golden shell and savory filling, tasted like the culmination of our efforts. The ladoos, sweet and symbolic, reminded us of the sweetness of our shared dreams and aspirations.
It was a day when our patriotism was rewarded not with riches or fame but with the simple pleasure of enjoying a delicious snack together. It was a day when we realized that the journey itself, the dedication and hard work, was more important than the destination.

As we celebrate Republic Day once again, I encourage you to reflect on your own Republic Day memories. They may not be as dramatic or grand as a national parade, but they are undoubtedly filled with moments of pride, unity, and love for our country. Share your stories, relive those memories, and let the spirit of patriotism burn even brighter in your hearts.
Happy Republic Day to everyone, and may we always remember the sacrifices made by those who came before us to secure the freedoms we cherish today.
