Flab to fab - My journey during lockdown 2020

Flab to fab – My journey during lockdown 2020

By Ayushi Upadhyay

It’s been too long! The masked people, the empty streets, the turmoil, binging on fast food, and the ‘feels too long’ pause to my happiness.

Like many other employees, I wasn’t being called for work since the lockdown started because of the Covid-19. The stress of not having a job in hand resulted in me asking my family for money. Asking my Govt-Retired Father for money – to barely exist as a Paying Guest in my hostel in an unfamiliar city made my heart wrench and my thoughts miserable. No! he has enough – I just like to believe I am an independent woman.

Being a spendthrift, it also turned out to be extremely difficult for me to make my ends meet. Having said that, it was extremely crucial for me to cumulate all the positivity within during these unprecedented times and act on it as soon as I could.

In the last week of April, around 5 in my sleepless morning, I thought of all the elements that needed to be straightened

out in my 23-year-old life. Then came along my asthma attack and the morning time to have my thyroid medicine which I was diagnosed with almost a decade ago. Thyroid, breathing problem and the borderline diagnosis to cholesterol and diabetes made me realise the root cause of all these – my obesity at 76 kgs.

Good food intake, calorie restriction, keeping away from my favourite sweets and a rigorous hour-long exercise on the roof of my hostel every morning, every day became my Mantra! And somehow – it’s now been more than 4 months for me to have continued my weight loss practices.
Since then dropped my BMI from 33.3 (1st-degree Obesity) to 25 (Normal)!

Good things came in conjunction with my 20 kg weight loss, I was called in for work in July and offered a profile change.

A work I really love – Writing and Handling Social Media. Seems as if all I needed was to introspect and a will to change for the better by putting a little effort, for everything else to fall in its perfect place!
