The green entrance of Cafe Kampu

Cafe Kampu Review: North Bangalore’s Hidden Gem for Coffee, Work and Weekend Brunch

BANGALORE: In a city that is rapidly filling up with high-concept cafés and overpriced menus, it is refreshing to find a space that chooses simplicity over spectacle. Tucked away in Hennur, Cafe Kampu has quietly completed a year, building a loyal following not through hype, but through consistency. It is the kind of place that grows on you slowly, and before you realise it, becomes part of your routine.

This weekend, we went back again. Not as first-time visitors, but as regulars who have, over time, tried almost everything on the menu.

Inside Cafe Kampu.

A space that breathes

The first thing that stands out about Cafe Kampu is not the food, but the feeling.

There is a deliberate calm to the place. The café is lined with plants, planters, and pockets of greenery that soften the otherwise industrial structure. It almost doubles up as a small nursery, and that changes the energy entirely. Sunlight filters through, conversations stay unhurried, and there is none of the usual rush you associate with Bangalore cafés.

In a neighbourhood like Hennur, surrounded by the expanding clusters of Jakkur, Kothanur and Thanisandra, such spaces are still rare. Most cafés here are functional. Kampu, on the other hand, feels lived-in.

It is also, importantly, work-friendly. You will find people with laptops, long coffee refills, and no one being hurried out. That alone makes it valuable in this part of the city.

A menu that has grown with time

When Cafe Kampu started, the menu was modest. You came here more for the coffee and the vibe than the food. Over the past year, that has changed.

The menu has expanded thoughtfully. It now includes eggs, sandwiches, pastas, light grills and a range of baked items. It still does not try to do too much, but it does enough to keep you coming back.

This time, our table had a bit of everything. A flat white, their Kampu special iced tea, a mushroom omelette, a grilled sandwich, a tomato and feta Danish, and a Biscoff cookie.

The coffee deserves a mention. It is well-balanced, consistent, and most importantly, priced right. In a city where coffee often comes with an unnecessary premium, Kampu keeps it accessible without compromising on quality.

The food, in terms of taste, is not designed to surprise you. It is straightforward, clean, and dependable. The omelette was light and well-cooked, the sandwich comforting, and the Danish flaky with just the right balance of savoury and sweet.

The desserts, however, stand out more than the rest. The Biscoff cookie in particular is something you will likely order again.

This is not a place aiming for culinary experimentation. It is a place that understands its role as a neighbourhood café and delivers accordingly.

Value that keeps people returning

Perhaps the strongest reason why Cafe Kampu works is its pricing.

For six items, including beverages and desserts, the bill came to around ₹1466. In Bangalore terms, that is more than reasonable. It allows the café to remain a repeat-visit spot rather than a once-in-a-while indulgence.

That difference matters. It is what turns a café into a habit.

The neighbourhood factor

Cafés like Kampu are not built for destination dining. They are built for the neighbourhood. And in North Bangalore, that matters more than ever.

With residential clusters expanding rapidly across Hennur, Thanisandra and nearby areas, there is a growing demand for spaces that are not malls, not pubs, and not overly curated. People are looking for places they can return to without thinking too much.

Cafe Kampu fits neatly into that gap. It does not try to be the best café in Bangalore. It tries to be a reliable one in its locality, and it succeeds.

Parking is limited. There are a few spots available, but it is easier to arrive on a two-wheeler, especially during weekends. The café remains fairly accessible from surrounding neighbourhoods, which adds to its appeal.

Cafe Kampu is not perfect, and it does not pretend to be.

It is not where you go for a standout gastronomic experience or a highly curated menu. It is where you go when you want a good cup of coffee, a simple meal, a quiet corner, and a place that feels familiar.

That, in many ways, is harder to build than a flashy café.

A year in, Cafe Kampu has managed to create something more valuable than novelty. It has created consistency. And in a city like Bangalore, that is reason enough to keep going back.
