A Glass Half Full

By Vania Jain

During these trying times when we are all quarantined and spending time in isolation, all we need is a pinch of positivity along with hope, faith and optimism. It is an ideal time to look within ourselves and enrich our life skills, learn new parts, pursue our hobbies and most importantly spend quality time with our family.

The given picture radiates joy, happiness,  love of life and oozes freedom and confidence. The girl is jumping with ecstasy!

The way I relate to this picture is that it inspires me to be happy, no matter what. We all face difficult circumstances in life and it is our attitude and outlook that determines the outcome.

When I was in class 4, I got dengue just before my final term. I was disheartened and extremely disappointed as I would miss out on almost a week of school and exams. However, I remember my father counselling me and explaining the importance of facing any situation with a smile on my face, with a positive outlook and an optimistic attitude.

He explained the importance of working out to stay fit and healthy and to take good care of my body as health is wealth. He asked me not to take any stress but rather focus on being up and about soon and while at home to use my time well to do things that I love like painting and reading books.

I followed his advice and within 2 days I was feeling much better. I realized that by taking my medicines on time and having good thoughts, I already felt happy and relaxed. Finally, after five days, I got tested again and this time my platelete count was normal and the doctor said I was absolutely fine and could join back school. I was thrilled to bits and on cloud nine. My heart was jumping with joy as I could finally get to meet my teachers and friends.

I also learnt an important lesson – to be free of anxiety, stress and apprehensions. My happiness knew no bounds and just like the girl in the picture, I jumped high with the aim to touch the sky.
